What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic medicine focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, together with the effects of these disorders on the general health. Chiropractic care consists of a drug-free, hands-on approach and includes a comprehensive patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment. The treatment is a holistic and natural systemic approach to healing that carries none of the risks of surgical or pharmacologic treatment.
Most treatments consist of chiropractic manipulation, which re-aligns the skeletal system and allows the nervous system to function properly. When the bones are not correctly articulated, it is known as a subluxation.
This is a theory that the impaired nerve function in the misaligned region causes localized pain and pain in other areas of the body. A manipulation involves a manual contact of high velocity and low amplitude thrust that usually produces a painless popping noise.
Many injuries result from overexertion, trauma, and poor posture. Relief from some neuromuscular problems can be immediate, although a series of treatments is likely to be required to maintain the improvement. Spinal manipulation is an excellent option for acute lower back pain, and may also relieve neck pain as well as other musculoskeletal pain.
Stretching, traction, and slow manipulation are some of the other techniques that can restore structural integrity and relieve nerve interference. In addition to spinal manipulation, chiropractic care also includes various other techniques and methods, including nutrition, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, and kinesio taping to achieve optimal health care.
